Madrid South bus station from Burgos
Burgos station is far from the city centre and the province's towns have no direct link to it, so reaching the train usually takes a car. It pays to leave with a margin and mention large suitcases.
How to get there from each area
- Alfoz de Burgos
- From Burgos to Madrid the route is the A-1, toll-free all the way, through Lerma and Aranda and over the Somosierra pass. The A-1 enters Madrid from the north, so for Barajas it is enough to turn onto the M-40 or M-50 without crossing the city.
- Ribera del Duero burgalesa
- Aranda sits on the A-1, so Madrid is a straight run south over Somosierra. The pass is the stretch most affected in winter, and for Barajas the route leaves the A-1 for the M-40 on reaching Madrid.
- Arlanza
- Lerma has the A-1 right at hand: south through Aranda and over Somosierra to Madrid, and from the city's northern entrance, the M-40 or M-50 to Barajas.
- La Bureba
- From Briviesca the route goes down to Burgos on the AP-1 or N-I and joins the A-1 towards Madrid over Somosierra. For Barajas, the A-1 leads to the M-40 without crossing the centre.
- Miranda y el valle del Ebro
- From Miranda the route goes to Burgos on the AP-1, toll-free for some years now, and then to Madrid on the A-1 over Somosierra. For many flights, though, Bilbao airport is much closer than Barajas.
- Las Merindades
- From Las Merindades the route first goes down to Burgos on mountain roads, which can be icy in winter, and then takes the A-1 to Madrid. For flights, many residents prefer Bilbao airport, which is reached sooner than Barajas.
