The city of Burgos holds the university hospital, Rosa de Lima station, the cathedral and the Museum of Human Evolution, and is where the whole province comes for appointments and paperwork. It also has large industrial estates, with shift changes at hours when there are no buses.

When demand peaks

• San Pedro and San Pablo fiestas (late June): Burgos's main fiestas fill the city with concerts and events for several days, with many people heading back at night to the surrounding villages after public transport has finished.
• The Camino de Santiago through Burgos (spring to autumn): The French Way crosses the province from east to west through the capital, and in season there are pilgrims who need to reach the start of a stage or return home from Burgos with their pack.

Tip: In winter the Somosierra pass on the A-1 can have snow or ice: for an early flight at Barajas it is worth leaving earlier and checking road conditions.
