The city of Burgos holds the university hospital, Rosa de Lima station, the cathedral and the Museum of Human Evolution, and is where the whole province comes for appointments and paperwork. It also has large industrial estates, with shift changes at hours when there are no buses.

When demand peaks

• The Camino de Santiago through Burgos (spring to autumn): The French Way crosses the province from east to west through the capital, and in season there are pilgrims who need to reach the start of a stage or return home from Burgos with their pack.

Tip: If you are leaving from Miranda de Ebro or Las Merindades, compare flights from Bilbao before booking to Barajas: the airport run can be much shorter.
