Hotels and rural houses in Burgos, Aranda and Las Merindades: how to offer transfers to guests arriving by train at Rosa de Lima or by air at Barajas and Bilbao
Accommodation in Burgos province takes in more and more guests without a car: they arrive by fast train at Rosa de Lima, far from the centre of the capital, or by air at Barajas and Bilbao, and have to reach a hotel in the old town, a winery with rooms in the Ribera del Duero or a rural house in Las Merindades. The property can offer the transfer as one more service of the house: it is booked in the guest's name with their train or flight number, the driver waits with a name sign, the price is fixed before booking and the invoice goes to the property or the guest, as requested. Aranda de Duero to Rosa de Lima is 88 km, from 118,49 €; Medina de Pomar, 89 km.

How do guests reach Burgos, the Ribera and Las Merindades today?
Three types of accommodation, three different arrivals and the same problem. Burgos's old town, around the cathedral, concentrates hotels, tourist flats and Camino hostels; its typical client comes from Madrid by fast train for a weekend, or is a pilgrim on the French Way who walks in and leaves by train or plane. The Burgos side of the Ribera del Duero, with Aranda de Duero, Roa and the villages of the valley, lives on wine tourism: hotels, wineries with rooms and rural houses that take in couples and groups from Madrid and the Basque Country to visit wineries, and that fill up in August with Sonorama. Las Merindades, with Medina de Pomar, Villarcayo and Espinosa de los Monteros, are rural houses among green valleys and gorges that people come to for walking, with guests from Bilbao, Cantabria and Madrid.
More and more of those guests arrive without a car. Those from Madrid take the fast train to Burgos-Rosa de Lima, which since 2022 has been on the high-speed network via Valladolid and puts the capital an hour and a half from Chamartín; foreigners land at Barajas or Bilbao and look for a way to reach a village their flight search engine has never heard of; pilgrims arrive with their pack and no appetite for more kilometres. No town in the province has a fast train, Aranda has no passenger station, and the intercity bus, with weekday timetables and few departures, does not fit a hotel's check-in time. The result is a message every reception in the province knows: we arrive by train on Saturday at midday, how do we get up to the house?
What problem does the property face when a guest arrives without a car?
The first is the station. Rosa de Lima is in the north of Burgos, beside the ring road, far from the old town, with a city bus that does not always meet the train and no public way to carry on to Aranda or Las Merindades; at night, there is nobody on the forecourt. The second is the old town: many of its streets are pedestrianised and vehicle access is regulated by the city council, so the guest with luggage needs to know where they will be dropped and how they reach the door. The third is distance: for a winery with rooms in the Ribera, the guest stepping off the train in Burgos still has 88 km to go, and the one landing at Barajas, 149 km along the A-1 to Aranda and then a track between vines with no number.
For a rural house in Las Merindades the problem multiplies: the village has no taxi rank, the address is sometimes a spot in the country or an unnumbered hamlet, and the guest who has arrived at Rosa de Lima or Bilbao airport with a suitcase and no car ends up ringing the property so that someone drives down to fetch them over mountain roads. That is the owner's time, kilometres on the house car and insurance that does not cover clients, and in winter, with ice and fog, it is also a trip nobody wants to make twice in one day. The province page says of Las Merindades that they are far from the capital and closer to Bizkaia and Cantabria; solving the arrival before the guest asks is part of the welcome.
How do you offer the transfer to a guest: booking in their name, sign and invoice?
The property registers as a partner on the hotels page or on the flats and rural houses page, with its tax details and the reception staff authorised to book. From then on, when a guest confirms a stay, reception books the transfer in the guest's name with the train or flight number, the property's address and the exact drop-off point: the hotel door if the old-town regulation allows it, the winery with directions for the track, or the rural house with a landmark. The price is fixed before booking and the guest knows it in advance; the driver follows the arrival of the train or flight in the app and waits at the Rosa de Lima entrance or in the arrivals hall at Loiu or Barajas with a sign bearing the guest's or the property's name.
The invoice goes to whoever the property decides: the guest, who pays for the transfer as they would pay a taxi, with their name and the trip; or the property, which adds it to the room bill or offers it within the weekend package and receives a single monthly invoice with one line per service. The figures are the engine's, the same as for any private customer: Aranda to Rosa de Lima, 88 km and about 65 min; Medina de Pomar to Rosa de Lima, 89 km, from 124,93 €; Villarcayo, 81 km; Burgos to Bilbao airport, 166 km and about 120 min. Each route has its page with the "from" fare that reception can show the guest before they decide.
Which excursions with waiting time do guests ask for and how are they organised?
Once at the property, the guest without a car wants to see the province, and the transfer with waiting time or several stops replaces the hire car they do not have. From a Burgos hotel, the classic is Atapuerca in the morning with the Museum of Human Evolution in the afternoon, or the triangle of Lerma, Covarrubias and Santo Domingo de Silos in a day. From the Ribera, the winery route along the valley is the area's typical transfer: whoever tastes does not want to drive back, and the province page advises booking the visits first and giving the driver the order and time of each one, because wineries work to fixed schedules; Silos is 45 km from Aranda for a morning out. From Las Merindades, Ojo Guareña, Puentedey and the Ebro canyons, with the driver waiting at each stop.
Reception books the tour as a single service with the stops and the time for each, and the calculator gives the full price before confirming; if the guest wants to extend a visit, they tell the driver and the return adjusts under the conditions on the help page. This province's guides on Atapuerca, Silos and the cathedral, and on Bilbao and Barajas airports, explain the tours and the seasons and make a good link for the welcome folder or the confirmation email. For groups filling a whole rural house or a winery with rooms, several cars are coordinated on the same tour at the same time. The opening hours of each site are published by its managers and change with the season, and it is worth checking them before promising the guest anything.
What happens at harvest time, Sonorama and San Pedro, and what commission does the property get?
The dates when the province's properties hang out the full sign are also those with the most transfers. In Burgos, the San Pedro and San Pablo fiestas, in late June, fill the city with concerts and close streets in the centre, and the drop-off point for an old-town hotel moves away from the door; in Aranda, Sonorama Ribera takes over the town for several days in August, with concerts ending in the early hours and many arrivals from Madrid along the A-1; in September and October, the harvest brings visitors to the wineries and weekend routes are booked ahead; from spring to autumn, the Camino brings pilgrims daily; and in summer Las Merindades fill with second homes. On those days transfers from Rosa de Lima and the airports are booked days ahead, and the price does not change for being a holiday.
For every transfer the property books or recommends to its guests, the platform pays it the commission published on its partners page, with each service itemised in the panel and the settlement in writing. There is no fee, minimum or lock-in, and the property decides on each booking whether the guest pays directly or the amount goes onto its monthly invoice. Registration is done from the partners page, choosing between hotel and flat or rural house, and the panel lets several reception staff book with the same access. What the platform does not do, it does not promise: it guarantees no number of guests or services, it does not assure a car at any hour without a booking, and what it offers is written on the help page.
Frequently asked questions
Who is invoiced for a guest's transfer?
Whoever the property names when booking: the guest, with their name and the trip, or the property, on a monthly invoice with one line per service that it can pass on to the room bill or include in a package.
What if the guest's train or flight is late?
The booking carries the train or flight number and the driver follows the actual arrival in the app: the pickup moves with the delay and the driver waits at Rosa de Lima or in arrivals with the sign. Waiting conditions are on the help page.
Can the driver reach the door of a hotel in Burgos's old town?
It depends on the street and on the council's access regulation; during San Pedro and San Pablo streets in the centre are closed. Reception states at booking the drop-off point the regulation allows and the driver confirms it with the guest.
How does a rural house in Las Merindades book for a guest arriving at Rosa de Lima or Bilbao?
From the partner panel, with the train or flight number, the guest's name and the house's address or location, with a landmark if there is no number. Villarcayo to Rosa de Lima is 81 km; for Loiu, the calculator gives the price with the address.
What commission does the property receive and when is it settled?
The commission published by the platform on its partners page, for each service booked or recommended by the property, itemised in the panel and settled in writing. No fee, minimum or lock-in.

How we write, where the figures come from and how we correct an error: editorial policy.
The access regulation for Burgos's old town and the fiesta closures belong to the city council and change every year; check them before promising a drop-off point. The commission, account conditions and waiting terms are those published on the partners and help pages on the date consulted; no volume of services is promised to anyone. Distances and times are those of the route engine in daytime with no incidents.
