The city of Palencia, on the Carrión river, holds the hospital, the high-speed station, provincial government offices and most services. People come in daily from across the province for appointments and errands, and many connections with trains and with Valladolid start here.

Tip: In winter the Somosierra pass on the A-1 can have snow or ice: for an early flight at Barajas it is worth leaving earlier and checking road conditions.
